Work included seismically upgrading walls and columns, installation of steel brackets and miscellaneous structural repairs to meet current seismic codes. Work also included additional electrical and mechanical (standpipe system) utilities, paving and site improvements.
The project was originally envisioned as adding one additional level each to two existing structures. During the design phase, it was mutually agreed that adding two levels to Parking Structure B608 would be acceptable.
The scope included selective demolition of the existing structure, structural retrofit, construction of several 22’ tall cast-in-place walls and columns, erection of two stories of columns and walls including spandrels and girders, the placement of 60,000 square feet of concrete decks and two floors of structural steel railings.
160 parking spaces were added to the existing capacity of 245, for a total of 405 spaces. The existing supporting facilities outside of the building consisting of site utilities (electrical and storm sewer) and pedestrian circulation system remained with no alterations.
